Y. Cathy Hung, DDS

Dr. Cathy Hung is a native of Taipei, Taiwan. She briefly lived in Singapore for two years before coming to the United States alone on a student visa in 1991 at age eighteen. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a minor in music from the University of California, Berkeley, and a doctor of dental surgery (DDS) from Columbia University. She received her oral and maxillofacial surgery training from Lincoln medical and mental health center in the Bronx, New York. She is a Fellow of AAOMS and currently a solo practice owner in New Jersey. Having gone through a long journey learning the English language, moving across America, and learning about American culture, her personal experiences gave her the inspiration to write her first book, “Pulling Wisdom: filling the gaps in cross-cultural communication”, now listed in ADA Bookstore as a practice management tool. She is currently working on her second book “Behind Her Scalpel: a practical guide to oral and maxillofacial surgery and stories by female surgeons”. Dr. Hung is an alumna of the American Dental Association’s Institute for Diversity in Leadership Program, Class 2019-2020. She has given many talks on diversity and inclusion to local dental societies and state associations. Last year, she was recognized by Benco Dental’s Incisal Magazine as Lucy Hobb’s Project’s “Women Who Inspire 2020”. Dr. Hung is also a certified professional life coach (C.L.C) and operates “Pulling Wisdom Coaching and Workshops”, helping minorities and/or female professionals to tackle challenges and excel in the professional world.
